The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), adjacent to the Weiwuying Metropolitan Park, has a total area of 9.9 hectares, making it the world’s largest single-roof comprehensive performing arts venue. Its undulating, soundwave-inspired exterior echoes the open and free spirit of the performing arts. The design inspiration comes from the park’s banyan tree cluster, with the Banyan Plaza connecting the four major venues—the Opera House, Concert Hall, Playhouse, and Recital Hall—along with an open-air theater. The openness, permeability, and inclusiveness of the banyan trees are integrated into the architectural design, inviting people to move freely and wander with art in every corner of the space. The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts opened on October 13, 2018, and is actively developing the performing arts environment in Southern Taiwan, becoming an important artistic hub connecting with the international community.
